Ce foret, qu'on faisait tourner à l'aide d'un archet, servait à percer des trous dans le bois et dans l'os. Une pièce buccale, souvent un astragale de caribou, servait à maintenir le foret perpendiculaire et à appliquer une pression sur l'outil.
